Dr. Nick Achilleos (Atmospheric Physics Laboratory, UCL)
The Cassini spacecraft's magnetometer data set has revealed many fascinating features of magnetospheric structure at Saturn. We will look at a review of some initial and recent studies by the Cassini magnetomter team, including: the response of the outer field structure to solar wind variations; the curious 'bimodal' nature of magnetopause size; some features of the mysterious 'rotational anomaly'; and evidence for weak polar flattening of the magnetopause boundary, consistent with a disk-like internal obstacle. |
