Venus's magnetosphere after 3 years of Venus Express

Dr. Martin Volwerk (Space Research Institute, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Graz)

In this presentation we will go on a journey through Venus's magnetosphere. The planet without its own internal magnetic field interacts with the solar wind and through so called "field line draping" creates an induced magnetosphere. This magnetosphere has all characteristics of one that most are familiar with, i.e. there is a bow shock, a magnetosheath, a magneto/ionopause and a magnetotail. We will look at the exosphere, waves in the magnetosheath, magnetic flux tubes below the magnetopause, and some evidence for reconnection in the magnetotail.
