1996 - 2000 Laws Computer Support Officer for Faculty of Laws, University College London
2000 - Present Office Systems IT Developer for UCL Mullard Space Science Laboratory
Why did you choose this career path?
I have been interested in computers since I was very young. I didn't want to go on and do A-levels. I chose to do a National Certificate in Computer Studies instead. I was very fortunate to obtain a place on the apprenticeship scheme at University College, with day release to pursue computer studies courses part time. On this scheme I was able to experience many of the computer departments with the Informations Systems department including Remote support, systems, Networks and the helpdesk. This helped me to choose my career in Computer support.
What does your current work involve?
My main role is MS windows support from 3.1 up to XP in the Lab. My first main task was to set up a Windows 2000 domain running on a Linux Domain Server for the administration group. My role has now moved on to trouble shooting hardware and software on PCs. I am also responsible for a number of databases on multiple platforms and areas of our website.
Hobbies and interests outside work
I enjoy a very active social life, I am a member of the social club at the lab as well as being a Cub Leader and holding the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Awards as well as the Chief Scouts Challenge. I am a member of Forest Canoe Club and the Kirdford Players amateur dramatics group. In my spare time ... hold on I don't have any spare time. :-)
