SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT AND TABLE PLAN
CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 07 8-Feb-99 to 15-Feb-99
GENERAL
SXT continues to perform properly, and the software system has caught up with terminator corrections for the new stray-light configuration. Solar activity resumed after the quiet interval. The Sac Peak joint observing campaign was pretty much of a bust, and sure enough - as soon as it was finished, the target region flared in an extremely interesting way (see this week's science nugget).
SXT TECHNICAL
The software system required some extensive prodding this time, mainly by Greg, but has now recovered the SXT stray-light correction capability. As of the end of the week, we had six new succesful terminator images - two each in AlMg, Al.1, and Al12. The images look OK but there may be a stronger tendency towards the "retina pattern" in the Al.1 SFDs.

CAMPAIGNS
We finished our support of the ill-starred flare campaign at Sac Peak. Better luck next time! This week there will be some active-region observations at the VLA, and we will try to follow along if possible.

The VLA will be making active-region observations, and we plan tentatively to run with ARS2 on their region. The details remain to be decided. VLA dates are Feb. 13, 15, 19, 20, 27, and 28, typically in the range 18:00-23:00 UT.

Continuing requests:
KSC & SSOC Tohbans: If any KSC passes are likely to be cancelled (for example due to a typhoon) or an SXT table cannot be uploaded for some reason, please telephone and e-mail the Chief Observer immediately. (sxt_co@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, copy to sxt_st@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp).
SSOC Tohban: On the weekly visible diagram, please mark the official five passes first and then cross out those passes that will be given to other satellites. That way we can keep the numbering straight in the Yohkoh software system.
SSOC Tohban: SXT operations do not currently include terminator off- pointing. It is unnecessary this week to ask the SXT Chief Observer for terminator off-pointing information.
KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, ie if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
