Questions should be submitted to the ESA XMM Helpdesk via two interfaces:
the XMM
Helpdesk web interface or directly to the XMM help account xmmhelp@astro.estec.esa.nl.
The UK XMM Support staff is collaborating with the XMM SOC in the XMM
Helpdesk activities: All queries from the UK to the XMM Helpdesk is handled
within the ESA system but the answers are provided by the UK XMM Support
staff at Leicester and MSSL, in consultation with ESA staff as necessary.
The XMM Helpdesk Web Interface
The XMM SOC generally recommends using the XMM
Helpdesk web interface . This is a very powerful and user-friendly
tool and it's not at all as complicated as it may look!
All correspondence (questions and answers) with the XMM help account
is placed here, distributed in different folders depending on the subjects.
This allows all users to read which topics have already been discussed and
avoid duplications. You can find what has been discussed in various ways:
There is a search engine at the top of the page which will
allow you to search all mail, incoming ones or unanswered ones etc for certain
keywords.
Alternatively, you can simply click on the name of each individual folder
and see directly a listing of the email messages contained in them.
If the XMM Helpdesk has not already discussed the subject of your query, you
can submit a new query simply by pressing on the
button at the
bottom of the page. This will take you to a new page in which you just need to
fill in your email address, subject of your query, your name and your actual
query just like in any normal email. To send the query just press on the submit
request button.
If you've submitted a new query, you will soon receive an email
acknowledgement containing the query ID number you've been allocated. Although
you will also receive an answer directly via email, probably within the next
couple of days, you (and others) can also use this ID number to search the web
interface for your query and reply.
More information about the helpdesk can be found at the XMM
Helpdesk welcome page
