Hobbies

When Im not working I like to keep myself busy so I have a few hobbies, Mainly ones that involve engineering!

In 2002 I made the decision to build my own car. Its something I had been planning for a long time and eventually the finances and facilities were favourable so I took the opportunity.

The Car I decided to build is a replica of a 1963-1964 AC Cobra. The original vehicle was a British built, aluminium body car. They were supplied to the US as cars with no engines or gearboxes. Once in the US Shelby Automotive fitted 7 litre, 425bhp Ford V8s

My Car is manufactured by Dax cars in Essex. It is supplied as a welded steel chassis frame and a fibreglass body. I fitted a 396bhp Chevy 350 V8 engine.

It took 1 year to get it on the road and then a further 2 years to get it to its current condition.

The driving experience is somewhere between total exhilaration and complete terror!

Other hobbies include building various radio control vehicles and playing with amateur rocketry.

On a clear night I can often be found in the back garden using my telescope to look at the wonders of the universe.

Whilst I was attending college I restored a 1967 Land Rover. This was found as a complete but non running wreck in need of a lot if work! I restored it over a 7 year period to a fully original condition.

It has appeared in Land Rover Owner magazine as a rare example of a restored vehicle. Most Land Rovers just get used and abused with very few being preserved as they were when new.
