Alan D. Johnstone Prize 2005
The Alan Johnstone Prize is awarded to the PhD student who has made most progress during the past year. The recipient for 2005 is Dr Steven Fuerst, who only yesterday defended his thesis successfully. Dr Fuerst has made very significant contributions to the fundamental physics of how energy is transported in extreme conditions, for example close to the event horizons of black holes and at the very early stages of the universe. Dr Fuerst, who was supervised by Dr. Kinwah Wu, is now working at the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics at Stanford University.
