PROJECT MANAGEMENT
When work is complex or difficult, either because of the innate challenges of the technology or because of demands from elsewhere, a system of management through a formal project can help achieve success.
Some industries, such as in aerospace engineering, have used project concepts for decades. As work goals in other areas become more ambitious, and as markets become more competitive and technology systems play a greater role in products, project management becomes necessary in a greater range of contexts.
Here in the TMG, we have practical experience of project management tools and techniques in some very challenging circumstances, and have been teaching these techniques to a wide range of industrial and academic partners for many years. We can look beyond the constraints of formal methodologies to enquire not only “What works?” but “Why does that work?”
Developing answers to these questions through research, in environments which may lack the usual support systems of large-corporation projects and programmes, we aim to offer practical assistance to projects in Research, Innovative Technology, Small/Medium Enterprises, Distributed/Virtual Teams and elsewhere.
